My client is a charity based in Leeds who do amazing work to support families facing children’s cancer, they plan and conduct a wide variety of different projects and events to help families going through tough circumstances. They aim to do this by providing emotional, practical and financial support to all families, support and strengthen the NHS and investing in vital research!
They are looking for a community support worker to join the friendly, hardworking team on a full time, permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity that will continue to grow and develop and to work for such a dedicated team.
Main Responsibilities of the role:
- Responsible for the planning, promoting and delivery of projects, support groups, events and services in the areas you are assigned
- Working alongside the charity’s family support team, social work team and outreach team to ensure families receive the financial, emotional and practical support that they require
- Responsible for collating feedback from families and professionals to feed back to the research team
- Responsible for recruiting and managing family network volunteers in areas assigned
- Strengthen and build relationships with key health professionals, charities and services in the areas assigned to you
- Be an advocate for the charity and promote their services to help raise money
- Work alongside health professionals to identify the most appropriate support for families
- Support families through their fundraising journeys and offer support with this
Requirements and experience needed:
- Good communication and listening skills
- The ability to build and maintain rapport with adults and children
- The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Be flexible and adaptable as you will be required to work evenings and weekends
- Have good problem-solving skills
- Have the ability to maintain professional boundaries
- Be pro-active and have the ability to work independently
- Have experience working with a variety of people of all ages and backgrounds
- Be resilient and have the ability to cope in emotional situations
- Have an awareness of your won coping mechanisms
- Be committed to making positive difference to the lives of our families
- A positive, non-judgmental, empathetic and sensitive approach
- Have strong team working skills and also be able to work well independently
Essential Skills:
- Must have a driving license and access to a car
- 5 GCSE’s grade C or above including Maths and English
- Minimum of a level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent in Children, Young People and families or you must have a minimum of 2 years paid or unpaid work experience
- Must have knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures
