Description of this role
You’ll work closely with Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, helping them make informed decisions through accurate reporting and meaningful insights. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, numbers, and systems, and who wants to build a career combining data analysis, construction, and commercial finance.
The Role
As a Data Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring project and financial data is accurate, well-structured, and accessible. Your work will directly support cost control, forecasting, and commercial reporting across multiple construction projects. You’ll also play a role in improving how data is captured and used, supporting digital improvements and more efficient reporting processes.
Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, validate, and maintain project and financial data from internal systems and external sources
- Maintain cost databases, schedules, and benchmarking information
- Support the preparation of monthly financial and cost reports, including variance analysis
- Produce dashboards and visual reports to track project performance and key commercial metrics
- Ensure data accuracy and compliance with internal standards and industry requirements
- Provide data support for tendering, valuations, cost planning, and forecasting
- Assist with improving data workflows, reporting processes, and automation initiatives
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers to understand reporting needs
Experience, skills set and/or qualifications
Essential
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Confidence working with data and learning new tools
Desirable Experience
- Interest or experience in construction, Quantity Surveying, or commercial finance
- Exposure to data visualisation tools such as Power BI
- Understanding of basic accounting or financial reporting principles
- Experience working with spreadsheets, databases, or reporting systems
Education
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (minimum)A-Level or equivalent in Maths, IT, Business, or similar (desirable)
- Qualification or training in data analytics, business administration, or related area (desirable)

Contract Information
- Salary: £35,000 DOE
- Work Pattern: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5:30pm
- 3 days a week in the office
