Description of this role
We're working with a well-established, independent accountancy practice in Leeds to recruit an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join their friendly and supportive tax team.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced personal tax professional who enjoys taking ownership of their own client portfolio, building strong client relationships and delivering a high-quality service.
The role has a strong compliance focus, so we're looking for someone who is technically confident, able to manage their own workload and comfortable dealing directly with clients without requiring significant day-to-day supervision. Alongside the core compliance work, there will be opportunities to identify tax planning opportunities and support the Tax Manager and Tax Partners with ad hoc advisory work.
Overview:
You'll take ownership of a varied portfolio including private clients, company directors and accounting clients, with potential exposure to trusts, estates and partnerships.
You'll be responsible for managing the tax return process from start to finish, ensuring information is obtained, returns are prepared accurately and deadlines are met. You'll use your technical knowledge to identify issues, answer client queries and recognise opportunities where additional tax planning or advice may be beneficial.
There is also the opportunity to support and mentor junior members of the team and work alongside senior colleagues on more complex client matters.
You'll be involved in:
- Managing your own portfolio of personal tax clients
- Preparing and submitting Self Assessment tax returns accurately and within HMRC deadlines
- Preparing trust, estate and partnership tax returns where applicable
- Dealing with Capital Gains Tax matters, including HMRC property reporting requirements
- Taking ownership of the tax return process and proactively obtaining information from clients and colleagues
- Liaising directly with clients and HMRC regarding tax queries and correspondence
- Reviewing HMRC statements, coding notices and repayment notices
- Using your technical tax knowledge to identify issues and potential tax planning opportunities
- Supporting the Tax Manager and Tax Partners with ad hoc advisory work, computations, letters and reports
- Building strong, long-term relationships with clients
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the tax team
- Keeping up to date with relevant tax legislation and developments
- Managing your own workload, deadlines and client budgets effectively
- Billing your allocation of clients following completion of annual compliance work
- Assisting with the onboarding of new clients and relevant AML requirements
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- At least 4-5 years' personal tax experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice
- Strong knowledge of personal tax legislation and practical tax matters
- Experience managing or taking significant responsibility for your own portfolio
- The confidence and technical ability to work with a good degree of autonomy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients
- Experience supporting or mentoring more junior colleagues
- A proactive, professional and detail-focused approach
- The ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively
- ACA, ACCA, CTA or a similar professional qualification would be advantageous, although relevant experience will also be considered
The company offers:
- Salary up to circa £47,000, depending on experience
- A supportive and collaborative working environment
- Ongoing professional development
- Opportunities to broaden your tax knowledge and gain exposure to advisory work
- Free on-site parking
- A friendly, established team and varied client base
